Maximising Your Health - The Benefits of Chiropractic Care

The continued rise in the usage of chiropractic care has been ongoing. Studies continue to demonstrate the numbers rising and the increase of people using chiropractic health care. In one issue of American Journal of Public Health, a study was published entitled "Use of Chiropractic Services from 1895 through 1991 in the United States and Canada". The conclusion of this study was that the number of visits to chiropractors has more than doubled in the past 20 years. Many recommend this particular treatment method due to the non-invasive approach and its insistence on awakening the body's natural ability to heal and become healthier, stronger and more resilient.

The Healing Benefits Of Chiropractic

Most people in their everyday lives have things happen that effect their bodies. Dysfunction in their musculoskeletal system can benefit from chiropractic care. From pain relief, injury rehabilitation, optimal athletic performance, aging and improved immune function. These are all some the benefits a person may undergo when they have misaligned spine, back, or neck. For people who need to be physically active for their work, sport and daily responsibilities, the presence of such dysfunction disables them from performing well. This is due to the fact that any form of movement on the traumatized area of the body can result in stress and possibly more damage causing more pain and discomfort.

Regardless of the cause of your initial pain and problems, among the many benefits research shows you may enjoy as a result of chiropractic care are as follows:

• better movement and improved circulation

• lower levels of lactic acid

• higher oxygenation and better nutrient delivery to cells

• increased flexibility

• improved comfort and decrease or elimination of pain

• Faster recovery time

• Reduced muscle spasm

• Prevention of future injury and improved immune function

• More relaxed feeling

The Overall Approach

If you want to enhance the benefits of chiropractic care, it is best to combine your efforts with an overall approach to your health and well being. Health is not merely the absence of pain and symptoms. If you have ever had a cavity, you know that by the time the pain shows up, the damage to your tooth is already there. The healthier you are, and the healthier you become the greater the potential benefits of your chiropractic care. Minimise dis-ease and maximise your health. The relief from any pressure or source of discomfort and irritation will allow your body to attain maximum mobility and better performance.

Some general recommendations to develop a routine and get the maximum health benefits are the following:

• Keep your body properly hydrated.

• Follow a healthy nutritional plan, including lots of raw organic foods and leafy greens.

• Do some stretching exercises or develop a healthy exercise routine.

· Maximise your oxygen intake through some forms of aerobic and anaerobic exercise.

Additional Benefits of Chiropractic Care

There is still a small percentage of the population who have misconceptions about the benefits of chiropractic care. However, research continues to be done, changing these perceptions and gradually more of the scientific community are showing greater interest in the healing potential that chiropractic may represent. One of the misconceptions being that it is not a valid form of treatment and is used only for mild cases of back pain, headaches, and the like. However, chiropractic adjustments are being researched to investigate the benefits even to those suffering from extreme cases of spinal or vertebral misalignment and other health problems.

Many chiropractors have patients who have benefited beyond musculoskeletal problems, these include:

• women may have improved comfort during pregnancy and labour

• minimise the risk of scoliosis in an infant and improve their postural development.

• Improved immune function and resilience possibly preventing asthma, ear infection, bedwetting, among other things.

• more energy, productivity and physical stamina in adults

• For senior individuals, they attain better balance, improved sleeping and prevent injury from falls.

Some of the results and benefits reported from patients who have undergone chiropractic care include the following:

• Improved immune and nervous system function

• greater vitality

• improved breathing and exercising

• improved digestion and bowel function

• improved vision

• Improved overall health.

Study and research continues as we look at the cause of health and the benefits of chiropractic care!

Following chiropractic adjustments, your body may start to improve movement and alignment of the spine and spinal structures. In many cases, a patient will immediately experience relief for a problem soon after undergoing chiropractic care. Restoring and building health from the inside is one of the advantages of opting for chiropractic care over surgical or medical procedures that often require a long recovery period. In other cases if the damage or misalignment is more severe, a person may be sore and still achy after care. Some people may take longer to heal and demonstrate improvement, they may also need to make other lifestyle improvements to maximise their health and wellbeing along with improved pain free movement.

If you approach your health from the perspective of a way of life, and give your body and mind the essentials for maximising your health, chiropractic care may be a key ingredient.

Chiropractic Care vs. Massage Therapy | Chiropractic Care

I'm a big fan of massage therapy, but I always say that if I had to choose between receiving a chiropractic adjustment or a massage, I would always choose a chiropractic adjustment. I find that, because chiropractic is an entire system of health care that addresses the musculo-skeletal and the nervous system, it has a profound effect on, not only relaxing the muscles, but rebalancing the alignment of the spine as well as relaxing muscles and restoring normal nerve function. Massage is very effective at relaxing muscles and increasing circulation, and in fact, many chiropractors use massage therapy in their practices, either by hiring massage therapist to do massage therapy on their patients or many chiropractors are trained to use massage therapy techniques on their patients directly.

In my practice, I use a combination of muscle techniques, including traditional Swedish massage, myofascial release and trigger point therapy. I also use various topical creams like homeopathic ointments that contain onycha or turmile. Massage therapists are highly trained at massage therapy but they're not doctors and they're not licensed to prescribe or orders test like xrays. Chiropractors are doctors of chiropractic and they are licensed to diagnose as well as to order Xrays and other diagnostic tests. Chiropractors and massage therapists have worked together for a long time and they always will. They have a very similar philosophy but massage therapy will not realign your spine.

It will not have quite the same profound effect on the nervous system that chiropractic. Another topic that's important to throw in the mix here is the issue of exercise. Massage therapy is not a substitute for exercise, and proper stretching and strengthening is really important to maintain normal muscle tone. So, it's important to include massage, chiropractic and exercise into your therapeutic regieme.

Positive Effects of Chiropractic Care

Imagine recovering twice as fast after surgery, no longer having the need for pain medications (or less medication) for numerous injuries/surgeries and conditions such as Fibromyalgia or Scoliosis, or boosting your immune system so that you get fewer colds/flu throughout the year. No, this is not a futuristic new age/science fiction novel. Through chiropractic care, it is possible to reduce or eliminate pain, recover more quickly, and is more affordable and less risky than traditional medical treatments.

Reducing the amount and intensity of physical pain is the number one reason individuals seek out chiropractic help. Chiropractic care can treat, or even eliminate, pain in all areas of the body. Back pain is the most commonly reported reason for patients to obtain chiropractic treatment. This method of care is not for back pain alone. Patients go to a chiropractor for a number of other reasons such as (but not limited to) headaches, carpel tunnel syndrome, knee injuries, arthritis, stress, and soft tissue injuries. By reducing pain and stiffness, patients are able to relax and concentrate on the rehabilitation process. It will also boost their immune system and give them more energy and a positive outlook on their physical condition(s).

When a patient is in an accident or has a chronic condition, the recovery time usually takes so long that they start to feel as if they will never feel good again. Chiropractic treatment aids speeding up the recovery process or get to a point that they can experience enhanced quality of life outside of a doctor's office or rehab center. By relieving pressure throughout the patient's body, they are able to heal at a faster rate and recover more fully. The body has many different entities, but it all works as one unit. If the "whole unit" is treated, then the individual systems will function more efficiently and recover from any ailment/condition. If a full and complete recovery is not possible, chiropractic care will allow the body to recover to its fullest extent. This is not possible if only certain areas are the main focus. The whole body must be treated for optimal results.

When thinking about medical treatment, most people cringe at the sound of words such as "rehabilitation", "medical care", or "medical treatment". This is because traditional medical care/treatment comes with a high price tag. People, and insurance companies, have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on basic medical care. The cost will double, if not triple, if more treatment is needed beyond basic care. It can be financially devastating to an individual and even more damaging to an entire family, especially if more than one family member is in need of medical care. This is why chiropractic care is becoming increasingly popular with patients, employers, and insurance companies. Chiropractic care is only a tiny fraction of the cost when compared to traditional medical treatment. Each session will run, on average, anywhere from $35.00 on up to $70.00. Most patients will only need a few sessions to get the same end result as months (even years) of traditional medical treatments. Not only is it saving the patient and insurance company money, there is less chance that they will need long term or repeat treatment. They will also spend a lot less time missing days or weeks from work.

Chiropractic care is gaining popularity because it is a non-evasive and drug free method of treatment. Traditional forms of medical care usually consist of prescription medication, trial and error treatments, and possibly surgery. Trial and error treatment can take a very long time, a lot of money, and possibly cause long term and irreversible damage. Prescription medications have numerous side effects ranging anywhere from mild skin problems to serious respiratory issues, and even death. These often leave the patient with more health problems than they originally started with. Chiropractic treatment simply realigns the spine and joints, which usually gives immediate relief and helps the bodily systems function properly.

It allows the body to go through the natural healing process and there are no damaging, life altering, or long term side effects or painful surgeries to endure. The main adverse symptom patients experience, besides immediate pain relief, is mild soreness at and around the sight where the manipulation took place. The risk factor drops considerably to around 2% to 4% when compared with traditional forms of medical treatment. Cervical spine manipulation shows that there were complications found in 2.09 people per million and 0.268 deaths compared to the complications in 15,000 people per million and the 6,900 deaths due to cervical spine surgery. Hence why chiropractic care is a much safer, less expensive, reliable, and preferred method of treatment.

It is imperative that, before getting any chiropractic treatment, you thoroughly research any chiropractor you are considering. They must not only be licensed, but highly skilled and experienced. After all, you would not get an operation from a doctor that has only had one year experience or is not properly trained/licensed. Chiropractic care is no different. Once you have found one that you are comfortable with, just remember Rome wasn't built in a day. Although it takes much less recovery time when using chiropractic care, it will still take some time for you to heal from your injury or condition. Take each day as it comes and follow the chiropractor's treatment plan. Also, come prepared when you go to your initial appointment. Just remember that a good chiropractor is always willing to answer any question you may have about them, their education, their experience, and your proposed treatment plan. Good and open communication between you and your doctor is just as important to your recovery as the treatments are.

Contact your primary physician today to discuss chiropractic care. If it is a good route to take in achieving optimal health, have your doctor refer you to a chiropractor they know and trust. Your body will thank you for it!

Understanding Chiropractic Care Through Frequently Asked Questions

Millions of people turn to chiropractors each year for alleviation of pain and other health related problems. Even though the field of chiropractic care has been around for more than a century, there are many people who have never been to a chiropractor or do not understand what a chiropractor can do for them.

Here are some answers to the most commonly asked questions on the subject:

What is chiropractic care?

The chiropractic field was founded on the idea that manipulations of the spine can cure and prevent many aches, pains, and disorders. Chiropractors find joint and vertebrae that are out of place or "subluxated" and adjust the spine so that everything is once again in its proper alignment.

Is it safe to be adjusted by a chiropractor?

The good news is that yes, it is safe to be adjusted by a chiropractor. This field has prided itself on using natural and alternative health treatments, especially those that are noninvasive and do not involve medications. It is also interesting to note that chiropractors pay only a fraction of what medical doctors pay for malpractice insurance.

Is the method of adjustment the same for all patients?

No. The doctor will typically take some x-rays of the spine to look for displaced vertebrae in the spine as well as several other possible spinal issues. Taking the results of the x-rays and the symptoms described by the patient, the doctor will tailor the treatment plan to the needs of each individual case.

There are even unique treatment plans for children. Those in the chiropractic field believe that birth can be a major cause for spinal trauma in infants, warranting a quick check. Older children can also benefit from spinal manipulations when they are complaining of a myriad of other health concerns.

Is chiropractic care safe for pregnancy?

It is generally considered safe for pregnant women. Lower back pain is a very common complaint for expectant mothers regular chiropractic care can help ease that pain and even put the body into a better position for labor. Pregnant women should get permission from their physicians before trying any new treatments or adjustments.

Can back surgery patients benefit from chiropractic care?

Yes, and in fact, regular spinal manipulations after back surgery can help avoid future back surgeries. As it is today, almost 50 percent of back surgery patients who do not undergo any other treatments will experience a repeat of former pain and symptoms in the following years, requiring more surgery. Chiropractic care can reduce this possibility and may even help people with back pain to find relief without any surgery at all.

Can chiropractic care cure all health problems?

No. Not all health conditions are directly related to the spine and its alignment, like cancer and diabetes for example. Yet chiropractic care can be surprisingly effective for so much more than just back pain.

It can reduce and cure many conditions associated with the nerve system function such as neck and back pain, headaches, stress reduction and conditions such as sciatica. If you, or your family, suffer from any of these conditions, its time you tried out this alternative medical therapy.

Chiropractic Treatment for Hand Pain - Things to Know

Millions of people around the world have benefitted from chiropractic care. Contrary to what most think, chiropractic treatment is not about just back pain. Chiropractors help patients with all kinds of pains, including hand pain. In this post, we will talk about visiting a chiropractor specifically for hand pain, along with tips and suggestions for finding the right clinic.

Do You Need Chiropractic Treatment for Hand Pain?

Chiropractors use a hands-on approach for treating pain, injuries and nerve issues. Their treatments can help in relieving pressure on the nerves, which can be caused by many different factors. There are many symptoms of chronic hand pain, including numbness, tingling, weakness, neck pain, shoulder stiffness and general dysfunction. You may also have decreased range of motion in the neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist and fingers. One may also have other kinds of issues, such as headaches, facial pain and other painful areas, depending on the cause of the actual pain. Patients dealing with chronic hand pain may have sleepless nights, as the pain might increase at night. In most cases, people believe that relying on painkillers is enough, which isn't recommended over a long period of time and that strategy is only masking the problem.

Chiropractic care can help in reducing the symptoms and may offer instant relief. Chiropractors may use other alternative forms of treatment, such as soft tissue techniques to reduce the pain, in addition to using manual adjustments to make sure the joints are moving and functioning properly. Additionally, after the chiropractor has performed an orthopedic and neurological evaluation, might determine there are pinched nerves in your neck causing this issue, spinal decompression might be recommended. In many cases, these collective treatments can be adequate in reducing your dependency on drugs, medicines, and surgery. However, if the chiropractor finds that the pain is related to other things, they might suggest you to see a hand surgeon.

Finding a Clinic

If you are looking for a hand pain chiropractor, be sure to ask questions specific to your hand complaints and find out what approach they plan to take. It's important that you select one of the known and experienced wellness chiropractic clinics for your condition. Check online to know what other patients have to say about their services, and most clinics have their own website, where you can find a lot of other details.

On your first visit, your chiropractor will perform a thorough orthopedic and neurological evaluation. They might perform or refer you for certain diagnostics, such as x-ray, MRI, CT, ultrasound or electrodiagnostics. All of this is done to better understand the underlying causes of hand pain and how to best treat your condition. If the condition can be treated with chiropractic and alternative therapies, this will be discussed with you so that treatment expectations can be set. Also, they might suggest exercises or restrict certain activities, until your hand is more functional. Have a question? As a patient, you have the right to know the pros and cons of receiving chiropractic care, so that you can make an informed decision.

Does Chiropractic Help Relieve Stress? | Chiropractic Care

One of the things that my patient report to me is that one of the most profound effect that chiropractor has on them is their ability to reduce their stress level and also recover from stress.

Our cranium and our spine house our brain and spinal cord. And all of the spinal nerves that are exiting the spine, innervate every single organ and cell in our body. By adjusting the spine, when we find misalignment, restrictions or what we call subluxations, we're able to profoundly restore normal nerve function. Ad this has a profound relaxing affect on the nervous system.

I like to say that chiropractic care helps nervous system become more highly organized. We noticed that there is a profound shift in the nervous system. Particularly in the automatic nervous system. The parts of the nervous system that functions without our constant awareness. The sympathetic nervous system our the fight or flight response that most people live in all day long, shifts after chiropractic care. And the power sympathetic nervous becomes more dominate. The power sympathetic nervous system is the part of the nervous system we would like to be more active. It's the part of the nervous system that controls the immune system and digestion. It tends to slow the heart rate and decrease blood pressure to normal, So it's very important that we have a dynamic balance between these two nervous system. And chiropractic care is one of the most effective and profound ways I know to balance that nervous system.

The other thing that's really very powerful about chiropractic care is the kind of interaction you'll have with your chiropractor. Really talking about what's happening in your body. My patient report that when they go out into the world after their adjustment, their whole experience of life is very different. They feel very rested but they also feel alert. They fell calm and they're really ready to take on the world.

Benefits Of Chiropractic: How It Helps You

Chiropractic care is becoming more and more popular in America and for a number of reasons. Whether you decide to get treated for a particular problem or you just want to improve your overall health, this form of treatment can help you in a number of ways.

Fall Ill Less Often

While measuring over 100 individuals who had been given regular chiropractic care, it was found that, on an average, they had a 200% stronger immune system than those who do not get chiropractic treatment. A better immune system means fewer colds and less missing out on work.

Aim to Stay Healthy

Don't you feel good when you know that someone is continuously striving to make you feel healthy all the time? These doctors get a lot of training in various areas like anatomy, nutrition, rehabilitation and physiology. Some of them may even have focused on these subjects more than regular doctors. With this knowledge and experience, they aim to keep you in good health.

Minimize the Drugs and Hospital Visits

This form of care has been seen to reduce drugs and hospital costs by over 50%. This is a huge reduction in the average amount of money that a person has to spend when they visit the emergency room or buy medicine to get rid of a problem.

Save Your Money

As mentioned in the above point, chiropractic treatment could help you save a lot of money. Chiropractors usually work out to be a lot more cost effective than going to a doctor and being prescribed some expensive medicine. If your back ache can be taken care of without pumping drugs into your system, you will save money and allow your body to heal in the most natural way possible.

Get Better Sleep

This treatment has been seen to improve the sleeping patterns of children as well as adults. Many people around the country suffer from the chronic sleeping disorder that can affect their entire life if not addressed. This problem can be reduced through chiropractic care.

Have Better Moods

Even though it may sound unusual that a spinal adjustment technique can change your mood, studies have found that this form of treatment can, in fact, make you happier. By decreasing the amount of cortisol in the body and raising the level of good hormones, many patients experience a better balance of hormones in their body and it can result in an overall improvement of mood. This is why chiropractic care is often suggested for people suffering from depression or anxiety.

More Relief from Pain

Chiropractic adjustments can often help to relieve pain in the body. Pain often occurs when the spine has been misaligned, either because of some condition or due to an accident. When this happens, it can cause a lot of discomfort. A chiropractor will help to adjust the spine and reduce the pain.

Chiropractic Is An Excellent Option For Headaches

Headaches are very common and most everyone will have one at some point in their lifetime. Some headaches are worse than others. Some are mild that involve a dull, ache and others are debilitating that may have accompanying nausea or dizziness. Many people deal with headaches by popping a pill and hoping that the pain goes away.
There is a better way, studies show that spinal manipulation is an effective treatment option without the side effects that come with medication. Chiropractic is especially beneficial for headaches that originate in the neck or shoulders such as tension type headaches. Most headaches that people have are tension type. Spinal manipulation has proven to show immediate improvement of headaches following just one treatment.
Several different triggers are known to bring on headaches. A few of these include noise, food, stress, exercising too much and changes in blood sugar levels. Abnormal posture over a period of time is known to cause problems in the neck and shoulder and lead to tension type headaches. People are sedentary in our day in age and spend many hours in a fixed position doing activities such as reading, sitting at the computer or watching television.
When doing these activities it is important to take breaks to stretch and move around. It is most beneficial to get up and move around at least every half hour. Moderate exercise such as walking has also proven to be beneficial to help prevent headaches and relieve stress. Drinking plenty of water is also important which helps to prevent dehydration which is another cause of headaches.
Spinal manipulation helps to restore normal motion and function in the joints and helps to remove abnormal pressure on the nervous system. This helps to prevent tight muscles in the neck and shoulders which are controlled by the nervous system. In addition to spinal manipulation, chiropractors also perform therapy modalities to help heal injured muscle and soft tissue which can lead to tension type headaches. Chiropractors also provide nutritional advice and recommendations for diet changes to help prevent and relieve headaches. They provide instruction to avoid poor posture habits.
Chiropractors are specially trained to help with various problems in the body, not just back pain. Spinal problems can lead to a wide range of problems in the body. Spinal manipulation helps to reduce nerve irritation which leads to dysfunction and disease in the body. Spinal manipulation helps to restore proper function allowing the body to do what it knows best, heal itself.

Can Babies Benefit? | Chiropractic Care

Labor and delivery is a marathon for the mother and the baby as well. There's an enormous amount of stress put on the baby's musculoskeletal system during even a normal birth process. But very often there are interventions done in the birth process, like vacuum extraction or induction or, of course, C-section. As chiropractors we understand that they put extra stress on the baby's gentle musculoskeletal system. We very gently examine babies for restrictions of range of motion and imbalances in the musculoskeletal system. And with just a very gentle touch, we're able to adjust the baby and restore the normal function of the joints and the surrounding muscles.

Babies are young, and they don't have very longstanding patterns in their body. So checking a baby soon after it's born could go a long way to just eliminating these patterns in their body forever. The work we do on babies is gentle. We usually keep babies dressed. Often they're lying on the chiropractic table on their back, sometimes on their tummy. Sometimes we'll even have them lie on their mom or have their mother hold the baby, or we'll hold the baby while we gently examine or adjust the spine. The work we do on babies is gentle, and babies usually like it. It's not painful to them at all, and they get very relaxed. Some babies even fall asleep.

Parents report that their babies sleep much more deeply. They'll sleep for longer periods of time. It's very helpful with nursing problems, either babies that are having trouble latching on or babies that have a very weak latch or babies having trouble nursing on one side or the other. That's why so many lactation consultants refer their new babies to me when they're having difficulties nursing.

Mothers also report that after chiropractic care, their digestive systems become more normal. We see less reflux, less constipation. And many mothers report that when their children are under regular chiropractic care, they have less colds and ear infections as well.

Chiropractic For Shoulder And Neck Pain

Neck pain is common today and affects most people at some time in their lives. In fact, two thirds of the population will experience neck pain during their lives. Healthcare professionals often refer to neck pain as cervicalgia. It is common for those with neck pain to have accompanied pain in one or both shoulders.
This is because the nerves that exit the spine in the neck also go to the shoulders and down into the arms and hands. Because of this, neck problems can refer pain into the shoulders, arms and hands. Neck pain may be the result of poor posture, muscles strain, whiplash or spinal disease to name a few. Even mental or emotional stress will lead to neck pain.
Two of the main functions of the neck are to provide stability and support for the head and to allow the head to turn and bend. The upper part of the cervical spine or neck provides most of the range of motion in the neck. The lower part of the neck and upper back are built more to provide support and strength. When spinal bones become misaligned in the neck, it will result in a loss of normal range of motion and can also damage surrounding soft tissue. The muscles of the neck can become strained. If misaligned spinal bones are not corrected, degenerative changes may occur in the neck.
Some neck problems may be more serious than others, especially if the nerves or discs in the neck have become injured. Warning signals of a more serious problem may include referred pain or numbness in the shoulders, arms or hands. It is also possible to have a loss of grip strength. At times, neck problems may be overlooked as the symptoms are presented in the arms and hands but not the neck. It is important to examine the neck when there is shooting pain, numbness or loss of grip strength.
Slouching and other poor posture habits are a major cause of neck pain. People often practice poor postural habits when working at the computer, reading or watching TV. It is easy to slouch with these activities. When slouching is done for long periods of time, the spine will become misaligned. The natural curves in the spine will be affected.
Chiropractic is a great option for neck and shoulder pain. Chiropractors are well trained to work with the musculoskeletal system and can identify and treat neck and shoulder problems. Chiropractors perform spinal manipulation to correct misaligned spinal bones and remove nerve interference. People often report better movement in their neck following chiropractic treatment. Pain and numbness felt in the arms or hands often goes away because chiropractic adjustments remove the nerve interference.

Popping Sound During Joint Adjustment | Chiropractic Care

Everybody wants to know what the popping sound is when you get adjusted chiropractically. And chiropractors adjust synovial joints and synovial joints is an area where two bones almost touch. It's surrounded by a joint capsule that's filled with fluid called synovial fluid.

And when chiropractors adjust, we simply stretch the joint capsule. We open up an area that's restricted. We restore range of motion. And when we stretch right to where it's restricted, you hear that little release sound. It's not from the bones. Nothing is breaking. It's not the bones. Don't even touch each other. It's actually from gas in the synovial fluid being released. It doesn't hurt and it actually lets us know that the adjustment's taken place. And it has some very profoundly positive effects on your body.

A chiropractic adjustment does several things all at once. It restores range of motion where range of motion was restricted. It restores normal nerve function so that there's no longer nerve irritation. It relaxes the muscles right adjacent to that vertebrae so that you have profound muscle relaxation. It even causes endorphins to be released right at the level of the vertebrae so that it reduces pain. So in one fell swoop, we've now corrected the problem that was causing the issue, and we've reduced all of the symptoms associated with it at the same time.

So Chiropractic adjustment and that popping sound is a very elegant form of healing.

Children and Chiropractic Care - Is It Safe?

The safety of chiropractic care has been a controversial subject throughout the years. People have questioned whether or not spinal manipulations are safe for adults, and it has certainly raised questions and cultivated fear when people talked about giving infants and children chiropractic treatment.

There has been a lot of positive changes in the chiropractic arena. Over the last 100 years, certain groups have been extensively trained and specialize in treating children and infants. The majority of the medical community now deems chiropractic care one of the safest and least evasive form of alternative health care. The question remains, how safe is it to have an infant and/or child treated by a chiropractor and why is it necessary?

Unlike treatment for adults, the techniques chiropractors use on children are modified due to the smaller and more fragile bone structure. Also taken into account is their weight and spinal issue(s). The chiropractor must use gentle pressure as to not damage any bones, joints, muscles, ligaments and/or tendons. This is especially true for infants, where only one finger us used (during an adjustment) to apply pressure.

Why is chiropractic care so important? For infants, the labor and delivery process is physically stressful. Most infants experience pressure on their neck and spine when they are born. This causes trauma, or subluxations, of the tiny vertebra. If they have an adjustment directly after birth, it can prevent them from having spinal and neck problems in the future. Stability of an infant's spine is a major factor in their physical development; therefore, regularly scheduled visits with a pediatric chiropractor is paramount for a child to maintain optimal health.

Chiropractic care for older children is just as important. School age children are extremely active in sports, playing and other physically demanding daily activities. This type of active lifestyle makes them more vulnerable to spinal/neck/back problems. Another major player is the amount of time they spend sitting in classrooms. That coupled with day to day physical activities puts a lot of pressure on the spine which can cause pain/inflammation/subluxations.

What are the most common signs/symptoms? The list of signs and symptoms is quite long, but here are a few that parents should look out for (note that all symptoms and/or signs do not definitively mean s/he has spinal or neck problems):

1. Limited range of motion in neck/spine and joints

2. ADD/ADHD

3. Chronic ear infections

4. Headaches/migraines

5. Digestive problems

6. Difficulty getting to or staying asleep

7. Autism and learning disabilities

8. Bed-Wetting

9. Frequent colds/illnesses

10. Difficulty breastfeeding

Parents are the first line of defense when it comes to their child's health. They see them every day and can pick up on what is "normal" for their child; therefore, if there is something seems off or out of balance they will be the first to notice. Physicians, including chiropractors, rely on parents to help solve medical issues their child is experiencing.

The key is, if you notice any signs/symptoms that are not "normal" for your child, notify your chiropractor as soon as possible. The earlier you detect any signs/symptoms, the better chance your child has to avoid/lessen any further/future or irreversible damage. If your child is in an accident and suffers any injury, you may not see the damage right away. Injuries can be left undetected for days, months, even years. It is imperative that, directly following any major or minor accident, you get your child into the chiropractors office as quickly as possible.

Children, just like adults, will get an initial consultation and full exam. This will let the chiropractor know what avenue of treatment will be most beneficial to him/her. The initial visit consists of filling out paperwork which includes his/her health history and the family medical history, X-rays and a complete physical exam. The chiropractor will then talk with you and your child about the results (either that day or on the second visit) and devise a treatment plan that is tailored to your child's specific needs.

The amount of sessions us usually less than what an adult would require. A child's body responds better/faster to chiropractic treatment than an adult. To prevent any long-lasting and irreversible medical issues, make an appointment with a chiropractor today. Be sure s/he is licensed in your state, extensively and specially trained in pediatric chiropractic techniques and is highly skilled/experienced in working with children. All parents want their children to have the best and healthiest life possible, so get them started out on the right foot by having a pediatric chiropractor "straighten them out".

Relieve More Than Back Pain With Chiropractic Care

It was once thought that chiropractic treatment was just for back and neck pain. Thanks to technology and the ever changing world of medicine, this is no longer the case. Doctors are now seeing that chiropractic treatment is a valid method of healthcare. It benefits the whole body and mind either as a preventive measure to avoid health issues or for rehabilitative measures and acute or chronic pain management.

By aligning the spine and joints, the body is able to begin the natural healing process and build a defense against further injuries or worsening any current condition(s). There are numerous conditions/injuries that can be treated via chiropractic care such as (but not limited to): back issues (herniated or bulging disc and sprains/strains), degenerative disc disease, Fibromyalgia, neurological disorders, Scoliosis, and certain types of headaches.

Chiropractors are generally split up into two groups: the traditional chiropractors and the symptom relief chiropractors. The traditional chiropractors' main focus is "removing nerve interference and restructuring the spine to its most stable biomechanical position" (Chiropractic Nutrition and Wellness Center). In other words, they treat the root cause of the patient's pain instead of just the individual symptoms. The other group, symptom relief chiropractor, concentrates on relieving the individual symptoms. While the patient may get immediate pain relief with this method, not investigating the root cause of each symptom will only lead to the symptoms returning at a later date or bring about new health issues.

These two groups can be broken down even further. There are three subcategories: relief, corrective, and maintenance chiropractic treatment. Remember, as with any medical treatment plan, you will need a thorough evaluation to determine the proper course of action that will be most beneficial to you.

Relief chiropractic treatment helps patients who have suffered any level and intensity of pain, where the root cause is generally unknown. This provides immediate symptom relief in most cases. The goal is to decrease or eliminate pain and stiffness which will allow the patient more range of motion and increases their ability to function in day to day operations. The length of treatment depends on the extent of the damage and how long they have been experiencing the pain/stiffness. Good communication between the patient, the patient's primary physician, and the chiropractor is paramount for this method of treatment to work.

Corrective chiropractic treatment is an advanced method of care for patients who have had spinal problems for an extended period of time. These types of problems usually develop new symptoms or result in a more complex condition due to lack of proper care. The length of treatment no only depends on how severe the condition is but the patient's physical response to the rehabilitation process.

Maintenance chiropractic care works in conjunction with any treatment(s) the patient is currently undergoing, and the continuation of rehabilitative chiropractic care after the current treatment plan made by the primary physician and/or specialist has expired. The main goal is to prevent further agitation to any current condition/injury. There are a lot of conditions that are irreversible, but with proper chiropractic care the symptoms can decrease and/or stop from progressing any further.

Discuss with your primary physician about the benefits of chiropractic care for your injury or condition. He/she should be able to refer you to the right chiropractor. If not, he/she can point you in the right direction to find one that will be the most beneficial. No matter how long you have been suffering, seeing a chiropractor now will help give you some immediate relief while preventing further damage to your body's systems.

A Quick Look at Chiropractic Sports Medicine

The whole idea of healing the body without relying on surgery or medicine is quite practical and worth considering. One of the most used forms of treatment today is chiropractic. Sadly, most people believe that chiropractic care is limited to the treatment of back and neck pain. In this post, we will explain the benefits of chiropractic sports medicine.

What's Chiropractic Sports Medicine?

Sports Chiropractic, also known as chiropractic sports medicine, is an evolving and budding branch of chiropractic, which aims at improving the performance of athletes of different sports. This particular branch of chiropractic expertise is a great boon for athletes and others who are or want to be physically fit. Besides healing and preventing musculoskeletal injuries, sports chiropractic helps in improving overall performance, endurance, agility and strength. Chiropractic care has been around for hundreds of years, but it was in 1980 that a chiropractor started working with the United States Olympic medical team. Ever since then, the use of chiropractic care and healing in sports has only increased. Today, most of the professional teams have an in-house chiropractor that their athletes have at their disposal.

Understanding The Role of Sports Chiropractors

The job of a sports chiropractor is a specialized one. They often rely on specialized healing techniques along with other forms of non-invasive treatments for their clients, including cold laser therapy and spinal decompression. Sports chiropractors are expected to have in-depth knowledge and understanding of different common sports-related injuries. For athletes, chiropractors use a 'hands-on' approach for every injury to the best possible extent, without using drugs or medicines. In extreme cases, an athlete may need both therapeutic treatments and chiropractic healing, and for such situations, a sports chiropractor may suggest other forms of healing and care, as well. If you are physically active, visiting a sports chiropractor can be beneficial in many ways.

What Else Is There to Know?

Before you visit a chiropractor, you should know their areas of expertise. As mentioned, sports chiropractors are known for their understanding of injuries and common issues related to various sports. On your first visit, the concerned staff will ask a few questions and other aspects related to training, thoroughly examine you and possibly obtain diagnostics before rendering or suggesting a treatment plan. Look for clinics that are known for their treatment and can offer other forms of alternative treatment. Usually, sports teams do hire their chiropractors separately, but if you are an athlete and need more than just general care, you can consult an expert independently.

Finally, on your first visit, it is best to ask questions as for how chiropractic care can help you in particular. An experienced chiropractor should be able to discuss and explain these aspects in detail.

Modern Chiropractors and Typical Misconceptions About Chiropractic Care

A lot of people continue to be frightened of trying alternative treatments, especially chiropractic care, due to myths and misconceptions. Here are a few basic misconceptions you may have heard about chiropractic care:

Misconception 1: Chiropractic Care is Agonizing

Chiropractic care is by and large pain-free. Many patients instantly feel relieved and also relaxed following treatment procedures. Others even describe the procedure and experience as being much like a good therapeutic massage. Individuals who have always been affected by neck pain and back pain can experience a bit of discomfort, however their sessions end up being much more relaxing and comfortable with time.

Nearly all adult people will enjoy chiropractic therapies. Chiropractic therapy for youngsters as well as babies is likewise usually pain-free, despite the fact that kids may feel trepidation and fright in the beginning.

A session might range from thirty to sixty minutes, dependent upon the disorder being dealt with and also the affected regions. Patients can experience discomfort or perhaps slight pain dependent upon the seriousness of the problem, in addition to their own personal threshold regarding pain.

Misconception 2: Chiropractic Care Can Be Dangerous

Chiropractic care is extremely safe. Chiropractic corrections are believed to be amongst the safest treatments regarding neck and back pain. The danger regarding having serious complications as a result of spinal manipulation is in fact unheard of. Spinal adjustment is actually recommended by nearly all physicians, before people are generally advised to have surgical procedures. The alternative treatment is likewise viewed as a preliminary choice before you take powerful prescription drugs such as steroids or antidepressants.

Misconception 3: Chiropractic Doctors Are Less Competent In comparison to Medical Doctors

Chiropractic doctors actually undergo extremely stringent and demanding training and education. These kinds of courses are much like those undertaken by medical doctors, apart from subject matter such as surgical procedures and pharmacology. Chiropractic doctors have to study for two to four years initially as an undergraduate, prior to completing four to five years of academic studies in a chiropractic college.

The certified professionals are therefore well-equipped in things like pathology, radiology, bio-mechanics, differential diagnosis, physiology, chiropractic correction techniques, along with other health issues. Additionally, there are State and also National Board Examinations to guarantee certification. Ongoing training is necessary for all chiropractors as well.

Misconception 4: Chiropractic Care is Expensive

Chiropractic care is actually deemed to be both efficient and also cost-effective. Chiropractic care is usually significantly less expensive in comparison to having major medical treatments such as surgery and going on long-term prescription drug plans. Chiropractic care patients found that they may have substantially reduced costs regarding inpatient appointments, healthcare programs and medicines.

Evaluation consultations are usually quick and inexpensive. Individuals might only have to see their chiropractors a couple of times each year, dependent upon the progress regarding the problem. When patients have successfully completed a therapy program, they are given a choice to carry on receiving treatment or to opt for occasional sessions.

Preventive plans are also offered in order to help individuals eliminate back, spine and throat troubles before significant interventions are needed.

Benefits of Chiropractic for Life

Most people go to a chiropractor initially to address pain they are experiencing in their back or neck.

While chiropractic has proven time and time again to be a highly effective means for reducing back and neck pain, what about after the pain subsides?

What are the benefits of chiropractic in asymptomatic people that no longer have, or even that have never experienced, spine related pain?

If you have been to a chiropractor in the past or even if you have a family member that has used chiropractic services, you have likely heard that the doctor recommended services even once the pain is gone.

This post-pain service is commonly referred to as preventative or maintenance care and is a little controversial in some circles as to if it is truly beneficial for people without pain.

Ask any chiropractor that not only practices in the profession for a living but also no doubt receives the very same type of treatment they provide on a 'preventative' or 'maintenance' level and they will of course tell you that chiropractic is much more than a way to get out of pain - It's a way to maintain optimal health for life.

But what does research show?

According to a 2004 review of literature by Sean M. Hannon, BA, DC, focused on the benefit of chiropractic adjustments in people with no significant pain, it was found that there is strong evidence to support that adjustments "confer health benefits to people regardless of the presence or absence of symptoms."

The review showed significant improvements in respiration, range of motion, cardiovascular function, immune function, muscle strength, healing time and reduced labor times in pregnant women under chiropractic care just to name a few benefits.

During my 18 years of chiropractic, I have seen firsthand the impact that adjustments can have on patients that have 'no pain.' The goal for these people, myself included, is to maintain optimal nerve flow from their spine to their muscles and organ systems to ensure they are functioning at their maximum level and to prevent problems from sneaking up on them.

Whether it's improved flexibility, more energy, getting sick less often or adding 10 yards onto their drive during the weekly golf game, every day I have the privilege of getting to hear about the impact a spinal adjustment is having on peoples' lives.

Combined with a healthy diet, exercise and management of stress, I have made sure that regular chiropractic adjustments have remained a consistent part of my family's wellness plan. And while I respect anyone's decision to utilize the incredible power of chiropractic in whatever way makes sense to them, I equally believe that people should be aware of the impact a lifetime of chiropractic care can have on overall prevention of future problems and optimizing wellness right now.

Many more people in our society are addicted to pain pills - that over time prove to have harsh side effects - than are addicted to natural alternatives such as chiropractic and massage. For some the medication is essential for pain control but for so many others, taking a vested interest in truly optimizing their health would enable them to utilize drugs as they were originally intended... bridging the gap between injury and healing.

Who Goes To A Chiropractor?

Some might wonder: "Who would ever want go to a chiropractor"? While there are others who would ponder: "Why doesn't everyone go to a chiropractor"? The profession of chiropractic certainly has had its polarizing aspects.

As a practicing chiropractor of over 30 years I believe I have seen all manner of chiropractic detractors and adherents. I can definitely see how observers, patients, non-patients and other healthcare professionals can be confused about the chiropractic profession.

I certainly don't profess an ability to explain every aspect of chiropractic care and practice. However a background of experience, education, and knowledge permits me a certain degree of latitude to be able to detail some factual information regarding the profession of chiropractic and to extrapolate upon relevant research.

Gallup is a professional polling and survey company. In 2015 Gallup performed a study of 5442 adults in the United States regarding the chiropractic profession. This was the first ever nationally representative survey measuring perceptions of and experience with chiropractic among US adults.

The results revealed that about 50 percent of adults in the US have been to a chiropractor as a patient. About half of that group had been to a chiropractor in the last five years. A considerable number of this group had seen a chiropractor for neck and/or lower back pain.

This is significant and positive considering that 80 percent of the US population will have at least one disabling episode of lower back pain before the age of 40. Chiropractic care has been shown by many research studies to be the first line, primary conservative method for treating lower back pain.

The Gallup study further revealed that most of the respondents to their poll did not realize the extensive education that a chiropractor receives. Those surveyed did not realize that a chiropractor receives an education similar to other healthcare professions such as dentists, medical doctors and optometrists.

Gallup additionally noted that the survey revealed those who had never been to a chiropractor were concerned about safety. To those of us in the chiropractic profession this came as startling news because chiropractic care has been shown in numerous research studies to be exceedingly safe, especially for the treatment of the neck and lower back pain. With the public's concern about safety of chiropractic treatment the profession is making an effort to expand its public relations in educating the general public and other healthcare professionals as to just how safe the rendering of chiropractic care truly is.

The Gallup study has provided a wealth of information regarding the profession of chiropractic and usage and perceptions by the general public. This is a great service as more awareness about care given by chiropractors will help the overall improvement of the health of the country.

Identify 7 Simple Triggers for Migraine Headaches - End Them Forever

Learn the right way to identify and avoid the common triggers for migraine headaches In 7 simple steps.

How exactly does one cure a chronic problem such as a migraine headache? When the dreaded migraine starts, it is all you can do to go lay in a silent, dark room. Unfortunately, our busy hectic lives do not allow us the luxury of laying in bed for a couple hours a couple times a month. The migraine headache has certainly been demonized but it is a warning symptom to tell you that something is not functioning properly in your body. I am going to go through an incomplete list of 7 simple steps to identify and avoid the common triggers for migraine headaches.

Step 1. Get plenty of sleep. This means that you need to get to bed early, avoid late night television, avoid exercising at night, and avoid stimulants, like caffeinated tea and coffee, in the afternoon to ensure a proper nights sleep. Lack of sleep and overuse of caffeine have been linked to migraines.

Step 2. Decrease stress and anxiety. This step can be extremely important because normally the attack does not happen until the stress is over and therefore, it is not correlated as being a contributing factor to a migraine headache.

Step 3. Hormone fluctuations. This will imply that migraines may occur more often surrounding or during the menstrual cycle, using birth control, or using estrogen replacement therapy. Sometimes women may experience their first migraine early in pregnancy and will diminish after the first trimester. Also women can experience a decrease in migraines if they switch to a low-dose contraceptive.

Step 4. Missing a meal or fasting. This will probably involve eating more frequently, eating dense protein, eating fat, and making sure emergency snacks are available for drops in the blood sugar.

Step 5. Avoid certain foods. A significant point to keep in mind here is certain foods like wine, cheese, processed foods, sodas, sugar, chocolate and other foods have been linked to migraines. Ever heard the saying you are what you eat?

Step 6. Identify any head traumas or head injuries because they are often linked to chronic migraines.

Step 7. Other triggers could be light glares, flickering lights, drugs, medications, cold foods, muscle spasms, spinal joint dysfunction, and pungent odors. You are now almost there! Remember, It is important to identify what you were doing proceeding the migraine to identify the triggers of the migraines. Migraines can also be a combination of any the above items.

Your First Chiropractic Adjustment: What Exactly To Expect

Men and women who are going to have their chiropractic treatment for the very first time might have a lot of inquiries about the treatment methods. Some might be worried, while others are anxious due to lack of appropriate education about what to count on. Read on to understand more about what generally goes on during your first visit to a chiropractic specialist to make you better prepared for it.

Patient Health Background

Any consultation with a Doctor of Chiropractic or other medical professional will start with a consultation. You will be provided a form that must be completed as a means for your doctor to collect background data necessary on any signs and symptoms or problems currently being experienced. That way, they are able to find if you have any history of other illnesses and far better able to figure out the origin of your existing problems.

Amongst the issues you are expected to answer on the form include the following:

• When did you very first start suffering with the soreness?

• How did the discomfort begin?

• Where might you have perhaps gotten it?

• Does any specific element trigger it to ease or become more intense?

Simply, the concept behind these inquiries is to supply the data your chiropractor must have to determine the extent of your condition. These findings are also compared to to any medical information that the individual previously has.

Physical Examination

Patients go through a comprehensive physical exam before a chiropractic procedure is performed. The checks are pretty basic such as reflexes, pulse, respiration, or other required orthopedic & neurological tests. All of these are carried out to accumulate important data required for proper diagnosis of the individual's situation.

Amongst the elements of a individual's well being that are established through this period include strength and tone of muscle, range of motion in the particular region of the body that is impacted, and neurological imbalances. In addition, a individual could be needed to execute a few physical motions to see just how well the entire body completes the assigned movements.

Diagnostic Studies and Diagnosis

Once the collecting of medical background details and physical assessment is complete, diagnostic analyses are now executed. In this phase, this is where evaluation of those previously obtained data are done in the hopes of helping to make an precise diagnosis. Some equipments used for diagnostic review might include x-rays, MRI scan, and a variety of other procedures.

When your chiropractic doctor has all these components put together, they now have all the resources needed to make an appropriate evaluation. The next step would then be to decide whether a patient will move forward with chiropractic care or if there are other proposed therapy techniques for their affliction.

How Long Might It Take?

Your first visit to a chiropractor would usually lasts for not over an hour. This should be sufficient time to carry out all of the above actions needed to gather medical info and assess them for appropriate diagnosis. Since it is your problem that is on the line, it is crucial for chiropractors not to continue in haste since some vital information could be left out, thus jeopardizing the health of the individual.

Choosing a Course of Action

Depending on the seriousness of the person's condition, some doctors of chiropractic can already begin the course of action upon the 1st visit. Nevertheless, some others would need to schedule another appointment to begin the treatment session.

Using the information accessible to him or her, your chiropractic specialist will suggest a set of objectives for your therapy. Once again, the level of the damage and the procedure determined for you will effect the duration of your treatment time period. Short-term treatments are generally suitable for people who merely suffer from discomfort caused by malfunction in the bones or muscle tissue.

Meanwhile, those that require full restoration of their health system to preserve function and improve daily life might call for a long-term course of action.

How Chiropractic Care Benefits Your Nervous System

To understand the benefits that regular chiropractic care has on your nervous system, you must first have a handle on the basic functioning of how your nervous system works.

The basic functioning of your nervous system depends on a billions of tiny cells called neurons.

There are billions of them in the brain and each has a specific job.

This makes the brain like a super computer that controls the rest of the body's functions.

However, it does no good to have this awesome brain if it can't send and receive messages from the rest of the body. This is where your spine and nerves come into play.

They connect the brain with the body so it can get messages to the body to tell it what to do and how to function while also receive messages from the body letting it know how it's going down there.

If you touch a hot stove, it is a message carried by nerves in your finger to the spinal cord and brain that lets them know you just touched a something hot. The brain and spinal cord send a message back telling your arm muscles to contract or tighten up so that it will pull your hand away.

Now this happens fast!

Messages that travel via nerves are moving at speeds faster than 200 miles per hour.

3 Different Nerve Types

Not all nerves are just sensing pain and telling you to pull your hand away from a hot stove. As a matter of fact, only about 15% are 'pain nerves.'

There are also nerves that plug into muscles and tell them when to tighten up along with how fast and hard to contract. This allows you to sit, stand, walk, run and even blink!

There are still different nerves that have an indirect but still important impact on your organs as an integral part of telling them what to do as well as sending messages back letting your central computer system (brain and spinal cord) know how it's going.

How Chiropractic Care Affects the Nerves

Sometimes the nerves that branch off the spinal cord can become compressed or compromised in some way because of slight losses in proper alignment and motion of one or more spinal bones.

When this occurs, it is called a Subluxation (Sub-lux-a-tion).

If the nerve getting compressed or irritated transmits pain signals in the body, then you will likely experience pain.

If, however, the nerve that is getting compressed or compromised plugs into muscles, you may experience weakness in the muscles.

And, of course, if the nerve getting affected has influence on any number of the various non-vital organs in the body then you could have issues related to your 'automated' organ function and not even realize that is the problem. You could be taking medications to control the symptoms associated with the effects of the organ not functioning correctly and never even realize the actual cause of your problem is not the organ itself but the fact that it is not receiving proper nerve signals input and thus over time stops functioning optimally.

The reality is that you could have subluxations negatively impacting your nerves and body and never even realize it simply because there is no identifiable 'pain' associated with it.

With a simple, safe and effective chiropractic adjustment you are not only restoring proper motion in spinal joints but also restoring proper flow of nerve impulses.

Chiropractic Care: The Questions You Want Answered

Can chiropractic care help with my back problem?
Chiropractic treatment is usually highly effective in preventing and managing back pain. However, only an initial consultation with a chiropractor will confirm if the treatment is right for you. Most reputable chiropractors will refer you to the right professional if they are unable to help.

What is the difference between a chiropractor and an osteopath?
Chiropractors focus on diagnosing and removing spinal subluxations (nerve stress).

Nerve stress can cause pain and stiffness which can lead to body dysfunction and ill health. Chiropractors correct the spine by gently adjusting it and helping to restore its normal flexibility and alignment. Osteopathy typically involves more focus on the circulatory system and muscles and less focus on the nervous system.

What is meant by a "spinal adjustment"?
Adjustments are when a chiropractor makes gentle movements of your spine. To do this, a chiropractor will use his hands to apply a controlled amount of pressure in a precise direction to a joint. Depending on your requirements, this may be a quick movement or a slow pressure. The chiropractor's end goal is to remove nerve stress and restore your body's alignment and balance.

What is meant by "subluxation"?
A subluxation is a bone or a disc in your spine that is out of place and causing nerve irritation. This stress on the nerve can lead to pain and muscle spasms.

What is that popping or cracking sound?
During chiropractic treatment, a popping or cracking sound is simply the release of small gas bubbles into the joint. This occurs when the joint has been stretched and separated. Most patients find this experience pleasant and relieving.

Is it safe to crack my own back?
Chiropractors strongly advise against cracking your own back (or any other joints for that matter!). Trying to perform chiropractic techniques on your own accord could make your condition worse and even cause serious damage. If you feel like you urge to crack or pop your joints, get in touch with a reputable chiropractor.

Is chiropractic treatment safe?
Chiropractic treatment is an extremely safe, low-risk intervention. Some clients may feel some mild tenderness or stiffness after an adjustment, but this is usually temporary and a positive sign that the body is responding to healthy changes.

Do I need a referral from my GP to see a chiropractor?
Chiropractic care is the third largest primary health care service in the world (after medicine and dentistry), but it is not covered on the NHS. Because it is a private service, you do not need a GP referral to book an appointment with a chiropractor.

We hope you found these answers helpful. Here's to a pain-free future!

The Benefits of Chiropractic Care for Children

There are a growing number of people who have realized the benefits that are offered for both adults and children through chiropractic care. The good news: you are never too old or too young to benefit from the treatment offered by chiropractors, which will have the experience and training to provide superior care for patients. Modern chiropractors understand how to work with even the youngest patients to ensure proper health and well-being.

Chiropractic Care Benefits for Children

When children reach school age and begin to interact with other children in a different setting, they will also become susceptible to their nervous system and spine being compromised. These compromises can be brought about by heavy backpacks, rough housing and their sitting posture. A chiropractor can help to address these issues, as well as problems that may seem much less obvious.
For example, there is some evidence that suggests that chiropractic care may work to relieve and prevent allergies including watery and itching eyes, coughing and sneezing as well as the common cold. This is not suggesting that a chiropractic treatment will eliminate these issues; however, it may help to strengthen a child's immune system over a period of visits.

Treatment for Infants

The chiropractic treatment that your child receives will be custom tailored to each child, according the specific circumstances, as well as the weight and height of the child. The fact is that there is no minimum age for chiropractic care, and that even newborns may benefit from the treatment method. There are some cases where chiropractic care may be able to be used to detect various spinal problems that may lead to asthma, ear infections and colic. With early detection, you may be able to help to prevent the actual development of these various conditions as well as the complications that are associated with them in order to improve the quality of life, for even the youngest patients.

Treating Older Children

As children age, they may find pain associated with growing and changes with their body. A chiropractor can help to increase the flow of blood and fluids to promote optimum health. Chiropractor care can be used for children from infancy through the college years and beyond. Not only will it help to strengthen the immune system, but this type of treatment can also be beneficial for preventing future problems and pain in adulthood.

Your Child's Health Care Team

Chiropractic care is often considered an alternative form of medicine, due to the fact that it is all natural and non-invasive, and lacks the use of any type of medication. It can be used to treat a wide array of ailments, which has made it extremely popular in recent years. However, if you choose to take your child to a chiropractor for treatment, it is important to talk over the decision with all members of your child's health care team. In most cases, the primary care physician, which is usually a chiropractic physician, general practitioner or pediatrician, can help you coordinate the care that is achieved. You should keep in mind that a great chiropractor will always be willing to let you know when the condition that your child is suffering from is outside of their realm of treatment. This is when they will likely refer you to a different specialist to seek treatment.

While there are many people against the use of chiropractic care for children, it has many benefits that can last far into adulthood. If you want your child to achieve optimum health and well-being, scheduling regular chiropractic care visits can be extremely beneficial.
