Many people have certain ailments that they are trying to mitigate. Perhaps your vertebra is not properly aligned, which have been known to cause some diseases and illnesses and some pains in your body. Many people use chiropractic techniques as an alternative way to treat some of these pains. The individual applies some pressure to the vertebrae and then they replace themselves.
After a few sessions, you should feel better. Many people prefer chiropractics over traditional medicines because those medications can produce side effects which can be dangerous and uncomfortable for the person. These medications can also be considered addictive.
Most professionals are worried about health, stress and your overall lifestyle. These methods have been used to solve problems such as asthma and other respiratory problems, migraines, back problems and overall stress.
Most people agree that this treatment is safe and can be very economical and many times these techniques are covered by insurance. However, before trying them, make sure you check with your insurance company.
Before you try chiropractics, make sure you talk to your general doctor and see if you are physically fit and healthy.
Discuss with your doctor your particular ailment and see if they would suggest you go to a chiropractic specialist. If he or she gives you an okay, then you should try a few sessions. Remember to be patient because many times you will not be cured after just one session.
If you are considering the procedure, then make sure you find a professional who you can trust. You may want to ask some friends or some relatives to see if they have worked with some good chiropractic. You can also do some research on the internet, in the phone book or in medical magazines to.
You may want to go in for a consultation to learn more about their practice. If you do not have a good feeling about the doctor or the environment, then leave. Although this is not an invasive procedure, you can still get injured if the person does not know what they are doing.
If you suffer from an ailment and have tried a lot of remedies, to no avail, then perhaps you should try chiropractics. If you go to a professional that has experience, then you may feel better.

Understanding Chiropractic For Disc Problems

Chiropractic is an effective treatment option for disc injuries. When a disc is injured it is commonly referred to as a slipped disc although this term is a misnomer. A disc does not actually slip since it is firmly attached to the vertebra above and below. It is more correctly known as a bulging disc or herniated disc. Discs are located between each of the bones of the spine or vertebrae. They act as cushions to absorb the stresses on the spine.
The discs consist of an outer structure known as the annulus fibrosus and an inner gel known as the nucleus pulposus. Cracks may occur in the outer layer causing the inner gel to leak out. This is known as a disc herniation. Having bad posture, being overweight and trauma can all lead to abnormal pressure on the disc and lead to herniation.
The problem may start off small and gradually get worse with wear and tear on the spine. The symptoms may not be felt until years later. The symptoms often begin when someone sneezes or bends over to tie their shoe, they feel a sharp pain in the back. The discs of the spine need plenty of water to function properly. As we age, the discs often become dehydrated and lose their normal integrity and height. They become hard and brittle and the outer layers become cracked allowing the inner gel to leak out.
Chiropractors are specially trained to help manage disc problems. They are trained to perform a detailed evaluation of the entire spine. If needed, they may order an MRI which will provide a detailed view of the discs of the spine. They will also look for misaligned spinal bones which can lead to abnormal pressure on the discs.
When the bones are misaligned the joints no longer glide properly and cause abnormal wearing of the discs. The joints may also become fixated or stuck which prevents the normal pumping action of the joints. The discs rely heavily on this pumping action to draw fluid into the discs and pump toxins out. The medical term for this process is called imbibition.
Chiropractors provide individualized treatment for disc problems. The cause of disc problems can vary from person to person. The chiropractor can provide spinal manipulation to help correct misaligned spinal joints and they can also provide therapy to help heal injured soft tissue. They may also recommend specific stretches and therapeutic exercises.

Chiropractic Care - History and Origin

Most people would probably think that the chiropractic field is a relatively new method of health treatment compared with conventional medicine. Very few know the actual history of chiropractic, but the truth is that it began long ago and has been successful in improving patients' ailments for thousands of years.
Definition of Chiropractic Care
The term chiropractic comes from the Greek "chiro" meaning hand, and "practic" referring to practice or operation. And in its early days and still today much of chiropractic care involves "hand treatments" to manipulate the spine back into its proper position.
Chiropractors focus on the connection between the alignment of the spine and the functioning of the surrounding muscles and nerves. They emphasize the practice of only noninvasive and natural health care methods.
The Ancient Days
Using the hands and other methods to manipulate the spine dates back all the way to ancient China and Greece. During the time period of 2700 B.C. To 1500 B.C., records were made documenting the use of such chiropractic care by physicians of the day.
And later, around 400 B.C., two Greek contemporaries, Hippocrates and Herodutus both employed the practice to cure their patients. In some of his writings, Hippocrates said, "Get knowledge of the spine, for this is the requisite for many diseases."
Daniel David Palmer
Little was heard of chiropractic care in the Western world until 1895, when a man named Daniel David Palmer founded the modern chiropractic profession in Iowa. Palmer had been in the business of magnetic healing until September of 1895 when he had an interesting encounter with a janitor at his office.
The janitor had been deaf for several years. He told Mr Palmer that his hearing loss occurred suddenly one day after he had bent down in an awkward position, and heard a "pop" in his back. Palmer felt the man's back and found a vertebra grossly out of position.
"I reasoned that if that vertebra was replaced, the man's hearing should be restored," Palmer recorded in his notes."With this object in view, a half hour's talk persuaded Mr. Lillard to allow me to replace it. I racked it into position by using the spinous process as a lever, and soon the man could hear as before."
Soon after this "miraculous" success, Palmer took on a new role, as the first American chiropractor, using spinal realignment techniques to improve everything from the flu to migraine headaches to epilepsy to heart problems.
Palmer once said of his discovery, "I am not the first person to replace subluxated vertebrae, but I do claim to be the first person to replace displaced vertebrae by using the spinous and transverse processes as levers... and to develop the philosophy and science of chiropractic adjustments."
In 1898, he began the Palmer School & Infirmary of Chiropractic to help others take on the role of chiropractor. Since that time, chiropractic care has become one of the largest branches of the medical field with hundreds of new chiropractors graduating each year from accredited colleges and universities.

Understanding What Chiropractors Do

Chiropractic takes a holistic approach and recognizes the body's innate ability to heal itself. Chiropractic treatments effectively remove nerve interference which helps to restore proper function allowing the body to heal itself. It is well known that the nervous system is the master system in the body and literally controls all systems, organs and cells in the body. When there is interference with the nervous system, disease and dysfunction in the body will occur.
The brain and spinal cord make up the central nervous system. One of the main functions of the spine is to protect the spinal cord and delicate nerves that exit out of the spine. When injury occurs, spinal bones can become misplaced causing irritation of the delicate nerves. This will lead to pain and dysfunction in the body. Misaligned spinal bones may also stretch the muscles attached to them causing muscles spasms.
Surrounding soft tissue may also become irritated. When misaligned spinal bones remain uncorrected, spinal degeneration and disease may develop over time. Chiropractic adjustments help to restore normal alignment and remove the interference to the nervous system which restores normal function in the body.
People commonly seek chiropractic care for the treatment of headaches, neck pain, back pain and arm or leg pain. Chiropractic is effective in helping many musculoskeletal disorders which involve problems in the joints. Chiropractic adjustments effectively reduce pain, restore proper motion of the joints and restore normal nerve flow in the body.
Problems in the joints of the body are caused from various different causes. They may be the result of a single traumatic event such as a car accident or they may be the cause of overuse of the joints over time or from poor postural habits.
Chiropractic treatment is well known to be a safe and natural form of healthcare. Chiropractors are trained to perform a thorough evaluation and diagnosis. They may also take x-rays to help rule out fractures, diseases and to see a picture of the alignment of the joints. These tests can help determine if chiropractic treatment is the best option for the individual. Chiropractors work with other healthcare professionals and will refer to them when necessary.
Chiropractors perform treatment in various ways. There are several different techniques to correct misaligned joints in the body. Some methods involve hands on treatment which uses a quick, precise thrust over the misaligned joint. Other methods may use instruments especially designed to adjust the joints. Chiropractors also have special tables that help adjust the spine.

Chiropractic For Shoulder And Neck Pain

Neck pain is common today and affects most people at some time in their lives. In fact, two thirds of the population will experience neck pain during their lives. Healthcare professionals often refer to neck pain as cervicalgia. It is common for those with neck pain to have accompanied pain in one or both shoulders.
This is because the nerves that exit the spine in the neck also go to the shoulders and down into the arms and hands. Because of this, neck problems can refer pain into the shoulders, arms and hands. Neck pain may be the result of poor posture, muscles strain, whiplash or spinal disease to name a few. Even mental or emotional stress will lead to neck pain.
Two of the main functions of the neck are to provide stability and support for the head and to allow the head to turn and bend. The upper part of the cervical spine or neck provides most of the range of motion in the neck. The lower part of the neck and upper back are built more to provide support and strength. When spinal bones become misaligned in the neck, it will result in a loss of normal range of motion and can also damage surrounding soft tissue. The muscles of the neck can become strained. If misaligned spinal bones are not corrected, degenerative changes may occur in the neck.
Some neck problems may be more serious than others, especially if the nerves or discs in the neck have become injured. Warning signals of a more serious problem may include referred pain or numbness in the shoulders, arms or hands. It is also possible to have a loss of grip strength. At times, neck problems may be overlooked as the symptoms are presented in the arms and hands but not the neck. It is important to examine the neck when there is shooting pain, numbness or loss of grip strength.
Slouching and other poor posture habits are a major cause of neck pain. People often practice poor postural habits when working at the computer, reading or watching TV. It is easy to slouch with these activities. When slouching is done for long periods of time, the spine will become misaligned. The natural curves in the spine will be affected.
Chiropractic is a great option for neck and shoulder pain. Chiropractors are well trained to work with the musculoskeletal system and can identify and treat neck and shoulder problems. Chiropractors perform spinal manipulation to correct misaligned spinal bones and remove nerve interference. People often report better movement in their neck following chiropractic treatment. Pain and numbness felt in the arms or hands often goes away because chiropractic adjustments remove the nerve interference.

Chiropractic Care And Nutrition - A Healthy You!

Why Nutritional Counseling Is Important With Chiropractic Care

Have you ever wondered how nutrition is linked with chiropractic care? Well, the answer is simple- the goal of chiropractic therapies is to help patients achieve total health and this is definitely not possible without providing the body proper nutrition.

This is the reason that chiropractors also help patients with nutritional counseling. We do this to guide you on what nutritional supplements and diet patterns you should follow to make the most of chiropractic care. Do you want to achieve optimal health? Then you should know the food choices that can help you achieve your goal, and chiropractors have the right knowledge to guide you on this subject. They can suggest to you the right combination of diet and supplements according to your health and body requirements.

Why Is It Important?

Unlike another therapy, chiropractic is related with spinal manipulation for relieving stress and other pains originated due to a stressed spine. All our vital functions are controlled by our brain, and stress on our vertebral column can lead to severe health issues. To recover from spinal issues, we need proper and balanced nutrition, along with chiropractic care. As experts in the field, chiropractors can tell the patient the food supplements and nutrients that will boost the process of rehabilitation.

Another reason why nutritional counseling is important is that our lifestyle and the food we eat today are not healthy. A general nutritionist can give us a diet plan, but it is not balanced because the nutritional value of the food is surprisingly low. We need additional supplements to overcome these deficiencies and to help patients recover from their health issues.

Usually, doctors don't recommend health supplements to patients - but providing the body with the right dosage of nutrients is the key to quick and complete recovery. Chiropractic treatments, does not give our immune system any external aid to heal from the damage. This is the reason why chiropractors consider a balanced nutritional diet vital for healing.

Chiropractors Understand You

A service provider, who does not understand you, can never understand your health requirements. What distinguishes a chiropractor from other service providers is that they value their patients. Every patient is given special attention and care. The nutritional counseling services usually offered include:

• Complete physical assessment of the patient

• Informative counseling on why nutrition important with chiropractic care

• Identification of individual needs of patients

• Providing a nutritional program to every patient

We are what we eat- it reflects in our health. If you want to live healthy, you will have to eat healthy and to acquire optimal health benefits from our diet- we need supplements.

A definite and well-structured nutrition plan and chiropractic care is just the right combination to bring out the best in you. So don't wait anymore- visit the best chiropractor in your town now that provides nutritional counseling.

Chiropractic Is An Excellent Option For Headaches

Headaches are very common and most everyone will have one at some point in their lifetime. Some headaches are worse than others. Some are mild that involve a dull, ache and others are debilitating that may have accompanying nausea or dizziness. Many people deal with headaches by popping a pill and hoping that the pain goes away.
There is a better way, studies show that spinal manipulation is an effective treatment option without the side effects that come with medication. Chiropractic is especially beneficial for headaches that originate in the neck or shoulders such as tension type headaches. Most headaches that people have are tension type. Spinal manipulation has proven to show immediate improvement of headaches following just one treatment.
Several different triggers are known to bring on headaches. A few of these include noise, food, stress, exercising too much and changes in blood sugar levels. Abnormal posture over a period of time is known to cause problems in the neck and shoulder and lead to tension type headaches. People are sedentary in our day in age and spend many hours in a fixed position doing activities such as reading, sitting at the computer or watching television.
When doing these activities it is important to take breaks to stretch and move around. It is most beneficial to get up and move around at least every half hour. Moderate exercise such as walking has also proven to be beneficial to help prevent headaches and relieve stress. Drinking plenty of water is also important which helps to prevent dehydration which is another cause of headaches.
Spinal manipulation helps to restore normal motion and function in the joints and helps to remove abnormal pressure on the nervous system. This helps to prevent tight muscles in the neck and shoulders which are controlled by the nervous system. In addition to spinal manipulation, chiropractors also perform therapy modalities to help heal injured muscle and soft tissue which can lead to tension type headaches. Chiropractors also provide nutritional advice and recommendations for diet changes to help prevent and relieve headaches. They provide instruction to avoid poor posture habits.
Chiropractors are specially trained to help with various problems in the body, not just back pain. Spinal problems can lead to a wide range of problems in the body. Spinal manipulation helps to reduce nerve irritation which leads to dysfunction and disease in the body. Spinal manipulation helps to restore proper function allowing the body to do what it knows best, heal itself.

Why is Patient Satisfaction With Chiropractic Care For Back Pain So High? Here's 4 Reasons Why

Around 80% of adults in the US are bothered by back pain at some point. Back pain is the 5th most common reason for patient visits to doctors offices. The research is in regarding patient satisfaction with their chiropractic treatment, in fact it has been in for over 2 decades. Chiropractic patients are extremely satisfied with their care and overwhelmingly would decide to seek chiropractic care again.

While practicing, I noticed that over 75% of my patients had been under the care of a chiropractic doctor prior to coming in. Routinely, they had been doing very well until their scoliosis, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, etc. worsened considerably. But I was amazed at how mainstream chiropractic care had become and how well the patients reported it had worked.

According to a 2000 Florida study over 92% of patients who had seen chiropractic doctors before would seek out chiropractic care again.

A recent survey of 14,000 consumers in May 2009 by Consumer Reports showed that 88% of those who had tried chiropractic manipulation were satisfied with how much it helped.

I attribute the overwhelming satisfaction of chiropractic care to four things.

1) First of all, chiropractors receive excellent training regarding the musculoskeletal system including anatomy and physical examination. So when they examine patients with back pain comprehensively and then speak with them about the specifics of what they find, patients by and large feel as if they have been properly taken care of with the work up.

2) Secondly, chiropractic doctors do not try to cure their patients in five minutes. Treatment plans routinely span weeks to months. This is not a scam. Inevitably it took a while for one's back to end up in the situation where it hurts. It may have started with a sneeze, but something had been brewing with a degenerative disc probably for years. No different than a physical therapy regimen takes weeks to months, so does a proper chiropractic regimen to provide appropriate pain relief and build the framework for a healthy future. This time in the office allows patients to develop a bond with their chiropractor, no different than how a patient develops an affection for his or her primary care doctor. Except one doesn't see his or her primary care doctor a few times a week for months usually.

3) Third, chiropractors often institute physical therapy (called physiotherapy) and spinal decompression regimens into treatment plans. What happens is the patient then receives a comprehensive treatment plan that benefits them in a well rounded method than just receiving a spinal adjustment. People who think all chiropractic doctors do is "rack them and crack them" would be very surprised to see the therapy departments their offices contain. Patients receive ice (cryotherapy), heat, elecrical stimulation, spinal decompression, core strengthening, lumbar stabilization, and other modalities for pain relief.

4) Fourth, chiropractic treatment is cost effective. When one considers the cost of surgery, hospital admissions, and name brand medications, a visit to a chiropractor is significantly less expensive. The cost benefit ratio is substantially in its favor.

Based on these four reasons, it became clear to me why chiropractic manipulation and services are so effective and make an overwhelming amount of patients satisfied.
